The show on Thursday, September 28, 2023, will feature a programme of classical music by Muhly, Brahms, and Rachmaninov. The conductor will be Cristian Măcelaru, a rising star in the international music scene. The violin soloist will be Nicola Benedetti, one of the most sought-after and influential classical artists of today. The show will start at 7:30 pm and will last for about two hours, including an interval. The show will begin with One Line, Two Shapes by Nico Muhly, an American composer who wrote this piece during the Covid lockdown. It is a short but moving work that reflects on the isolation and connection of human beings. Next, Nicola Benedetti will join the orchestra for Brahms’ Violin Concerto, a masterpiece of symphonic proportions and lyrical beauty. The concerto has three movements: a majestic allegro, a serene adagio, and a lively finale based on a Hungarian dance. Finally, the show will end with Rachmaninov’s Symphony no. 3, a work that combines romanticism and modernism in a brilliant and expressive way. The symphony has three movements: a dramatic allegro, a nostalgic adagio, and a spirited allegro vivace.
