Built by the People, for the People The hall’s story began in the late 1970s, when local legend Mrs Betty Holmes M.B.E. helped change the covenant on the land to make way for a new community space. With architect Derek Kearns’ design and a fundraising effort that rallied the village, the hall was officially opened in 1982. Since then, it has evolved through thoughtful extensions and refurbishments, including the addition of the Frank Goddard Room in 2003. A Stage for Every Occasion From ballet classes to birthday parties, karate to quiz nights, the hall hosts a kaleidoscope of events that reflect the diversity and dynamism of the community. It’s where toddlers take their first dance steps, where couples celebrate milestones, and where local campaigns, like the recent standing-room-only meeting opposing large-scale housing developments—find their voice. Powered by Volunteers, Not by Profit What makes Old Basing Village Hall truly remarkable is its governance. Run entirely by a volunteer steering committee and operating as a registered charity, it receives no external financial support. Yet it thrives, thanks to the dedication of locals who believe in its value and the special rates offered to parishioners that keep it accessible. A Future Worth Investing In As Basingstoke continues to grow and change, the hall remains a vital anchor, a place where tradition meets innovation, and where community spirit is not just preserved but celebrated. Whether you're booking a wedding, attending a yoga class, or simply popping in for a parish meeting, Old Basing Village Hall welcomes you with open arms and a sense of belonging. In a world that often feels fragmented, this hall reminds us that community isn’t just a concept, it’s a place. And Old Basing Village Hall is one worth championing.
